January 2022: Project Playground was created by three Westfield parents
November 2023: After raising $135,000, we held a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the installation of 6 pieces of accessible equipment and surfacing at Lincoln School. Inclusive signage was created by Westfield High School students.
January 2024: Project Playground expanded to Franklin and Jefferson Elementary Schools which serve over 900 students
November 2024: After raising over $110,000, we installed new equipment at Jefferson School. Fundraising continues.
February 2025: After raising $175,000, we installed 8 pieces of accessible equipment and surfacing at Franklin School.
March 2025: Project Playground expanded to Wilson and McKinley Schools which serve an additional 700 students.
May 2025: The Westfield Foundation awarded Project Playground a $75,000 Golden Impact Grant to add accessible equipment to Wilson, McKinley and Washington school playgrounds.
Spring 2025: Over 500 Franklin students painted an inclusive mural on the playground. A communication board and welcome sign were added to the playground.
Fall 2025: Project Playground launched at Tamaques Elementary School.
October 2025: Wilson Elementary School placed the first purchase order for accessible equipment.
November 2025 : We hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony at Franklin Elementary School.
January 2026: McKinley Elementary School placed its first purchase order for inclusive equipment.
